How to Clean Your WeatherShade System

March 30, 2023

Picture this: Your new Sunlite WeatherShade louvre roof has been installed by our accredited experts and you’re enjoying your outdoor space more than you ever have before. In fact, your bespoke opening roof system has given you year-round use of your external living space and sheltered you from sun and storms for a while now so it’s time to reciprocate the protection. Engineered from marine grade aluminium and stainless steel components and built to withstand Australia’s harsh conditions, it requires very little maintenance but cleaning and caring for your system is important nonetheless.

Cleaning your WeatherShade system every 2-3 months will keep your system looking its best, functioning at an optimum and will preserve the longevity of your investment. Cleaning your system often will also give you the opportunity to inspect the blades, fixings and mechanical components for damage or faults and repair minor issues before they become serious.

Over time, the system will be exposed to a number of environmental elements depending on your location, such as salt, pollution, dust, debris, leaves, mould, moss and more. Fortunately, cleaning your louvres is as effortless as it is to operate them.

Here are some helpful tips to clean your WeatherShade system:

  1. Avoid dry dusting to prevent scratching the powder-coated or anodised finish on the blade.
  2. Use warm soapy water made from a diluted solution of pH-neutral liquid handwash or mild dishwashing detergent.
  3. Gently rub the surface of the louvre with a soft, non-abrasive brush to remove loose or dried grime.
  4. Rinse with fresh water straight from the hose to remove detergent residue and allow to air dry.
  5. Avoid using water blasters and high-pressure hoses near the electrical points of automated motors and gear drives.

With a little bit of care and maintenance every few months, you’ll continue to enjoy the comfort, craftsmanship and architectural function of your WeatherShade system for many years to come.
